Halloween has just passed. And I think: why don’t I write something that relates to Halloween? That’s why today we have HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA. As a big fan of horror movies, I love creepy things. But this time, I’m talking about some extremely funny and weird things that are quite scary at first sight.
The general plot is that Count Dracula builds a 5-star hotel to protect his daughter, Mavis from humans. Monsters from all over the world (and only monsters) can come in. One day, a human names Johnny accidentally come into the hotel, and a hilarious adventure begins.
OK, I really want to talk a lot about this amazing movie. So, SPOIL ALERT: The following part contains the ending and reveals some surprising details from Hotel Transylvania. I’m writing for who loves this movie. If you haven’t watched it, don’t read the next part!
First, behold the monsters! They remind me of my funny and weird best friends. They are uniquely talented and really nice. Although many people don’t like them, they just ignore it and live happily. There are no buttons to block the flows of energy in my friends. And I realize, I can’t imagine a life without them: no laughs, no crazy jokes, no optimistism, etc. So do these monsters. They prove that legends are all wrong: they don’t massacre humans, but human try to chase and destroy them. It may sound ironic to you, but that’s what the director wants to say: Everything is not what it seems. These guys are the very “spotlightical” (my friend made up this word) factors of the movie.
Now, we’re coming to Count Dracula. Unlike the vampires in others films, this Dracula is hilarious, friendly and kind. He is somewhat alike the vampires in “The Saga of Darren Shan”, but those guys are much more violent. In Hotel Transylvania, we only see a great Dad who loves his daughter and has good friends. He protects his daughter at any cost, even when he has to lie. This guy’s past is so pitiful. Just imagine, if you lose your best loved person, how would you feel? That’s why he fears to lose his only daughter and nearly “imprison” her.
This is a quote that I really love:
"I promised your mommy I would protect you forever."
However, this very vampire finally brings our couple back together. He even sacrifices himself and fly under the sunlight to call Johnny. How awesome! He realizes that Mavis has grown up, and one day he has to let her go, and that’s how he loves her. I’m sure that some of you is wishing that you had a dad like Count Dracula.
Let’s talk about Mavis. She’s like me and everyone else. She is strictly supervised and she just wants to get out of the bird cage. She’s curious and likes new things. She’s excited when Johnny tells her interesting facts about another world, the world that she always believes to be horrible. In short, she is no other than a typical teenager. Yet, she still loves her Dad so much. When Dracula, being nearly burnt, crashes into her room, she looks so anxious.
But anyway, unlike us, in the end, she has a happy ending. We might have to wait one more century to heard "Do what your heart told you, dear" from our Dad.

The best thing about Hotel Transylvania is the way it turn creepy characters into childish ones. Every kid can watch it without screaming. Even adults (my Mom is an example) laughed all the time. Everything seems to be completely opposite to what we commonly believe.
Deeper than that are some great lessons:
Deeper than that are some great lessons:
- Don’t judge people of their appearance. If anyone does that to you, be yourself and you’ll shine.
- Don’t hesitate to forgive because forgiveness can heal your sentimental wounds.
- Everyone grows up. A cocoon cannot keep the caterpillar inside forever. It has to get out and be a butterfly. So, be ready to face to tough and interesting challenges!
- Don’t judge your parents even when you feel cramped. What if there is some hidden stories behind the reason “I just want the best for you"?
- Don't believe everything the others say. Some of the "facts" that we believe in are wrong. As Dracula says "The legend...is wrong."
