Record Breaking Storms Hit West Coast. ABC News. ABC News Network, n.d. Web. 04 Dec. 2014.
California has just been wrecked by a storm. It created a twenty-feet-deep hole and caused serious traffic jam. The worse thing is that heavy rain has also destroyed the water pipes throughout a big region. According to a journalist, "roadways had turned into waterways". Some areas were so terribly flooded that people had to leave their car in the water. The government had to urge everyone to stay home for their safety.

After a criminal , 3 cartoons and a romantic-comedy-drama movie, now we will come to an action and adventurous one. The central character of this movie has a very familiar name to all of us: THE MUMMY.
The movie begins with a romantic and tragic scene: both lovers died harshly (I wish I won’t die like that). Then, thousands of years later, a Cairo librarian, her brother - the guy that found the map - and another man that they saved, go to Hamunaptra. They accidentally wake a mummy (the lover at the beginning) up and BOOM! Many people die and the three have to try to kill the mummy.
The plot is simple, but the flow of the story is complicated and fantastic. Let’s talk about the actions and thrilling scenes instead of meaningful lessons as usual, because we’re not talking about a deep and incomprehensible movie.
First, they know when and where to be serious of funny. If the beginning impressed me by revealing the Mummy's epic origin, the funny moments of Evelyn and Jonathan, such as when he pretended to be a corpse, make me feel this is not only a fighting movie.
THE MUMMY is a movie that satisfy the adventurous blood flowing in my body and my action-lover eyes. The fightings, running and chasing are breath-taking. I sticked to my chair all the time. I love when the team was driving the car and beat the inferior mummies at the same time. The intense action scenes just come uninterruptedly. However, it’s a bit (actually not "a bit") violent, so I don’t recommend this for little children. Also, the beetles are disgusting. They especially made me felt creepy when they ate Imhotep.
If you are not a fan of Egyptian history, you will. Throughout the movie are interesting stories and knowledge about Egyptian culture and myths that you never see in the textbook. You will be lost in an epic world of ancient Egypt with pyramids, treasure, mysterious magic, Homdai punishment, Hamunaptra or the legends of death. Every moment I told myself "Please, I wanna touch and feel those sparkles." All those factors have added some tasty spices into the movie-soup. Although this movie was in 1999, they somehow brought a real ancient Egypt to everyone. After THE MUMMY I even wanted to be an Egyptologist and treasure hunter!
There’s nothing to criticize about the effects. Comparing to other 1900s movies, MUMMY is one of the best. For example, the way Imhotep sucks up the guys’ souls to revive himself is awesome. I could even feel the power of his breath and imagine that the tiny cells from the explorers move into the mummy’s mouth. The sandstorm and the rooms in the pyramid look so real. The beetle, as I said, are yucky, but that's still fine. And of course, the effects of the actions is totally moving.
The weirdest thing that I found about THE MUMMY was there was no blood?!?! All the choppings, cuttings and slicings had no blood at all. Anyway, generally, I have nothing to complain about the rest.
These are some simple funny also serious one, that I learn from THE MUMMY
I’ll skip the boring part, which is the urge-you-to-watch part, this time. To conclude, the movie is just so amazing and undeniable!
Halloween has just passed. And I think: why don’t I write something that relates to Halloween? That’s why today we have HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA. As a big fan of horror movies, I love creepy things. But this time, I’m talking about some extremely funny and weird things that are quite scary at first sight.
The general plot is that Count Dracula builds a 5-star hotel to protect his daughter, Mavis from humans. Monsters from all over the world (and only monsters) can come in. One day, a human names Johnny accidentally come into the hotel, and a hilarious adventure begins.
OK, I really want to talk a lot about this amazing movie. So, SPOIL ALERT: The following part contains the ending and reveals some surprising details from Hotel Transylvania. I’m writing for who loves this movie. If you haven’t watched it, don’t read the next part!
First, behold the monsters! They remind me of my funny and weird best friends. They are uniquely talented and really nice. Although many people don’t like them, they just ignore it and live happily. There are no buttons to block the flows of energy in my friends. And I realize, I can’t imagine a life without them: no laughs, no crazy jokes, no optimistism, etc. So do these monsters. They prove that legends are all wrong: they don’t massacre humans, but human try to chase and destroy them. It may sound ironic to you, but that’s what the director wants to say: Everything is not what it seems. These guys are the very “spotlightical” (my friend made up this word) factors of the movie.
Now, we’re coming to Count Dracula. Unlike the vampires in others films, this Dracula is hilarious, friendly and kind. He is somewhat alike the vampires in “The Saga of Darren Shan”, but those guys are much more violent. In Hotel Transylvania, we only see a great Dad who loves his daughter and has good friends. He protects his daughter at any cost, even when he has to lie. This guy’s past is so pitiful. Just imagine, if you lose your best loved person, how would you feel? That’s why he fears to lose his only daughter and nearly “imprison” her.
This is a quote that I really love:
"I promised your mommy I would protect you forever."
However, this very vampire finally brings our couple back together. He even sacrifices himself and fly under the sunlight to call Johnny. How awesome! He realizes that Mavis has grown up, and one day he has to let her go, and that’s how he loves her. I’m sure that some of you is wishing that you had a dad like Count Dracula.
Let’s talk about Mavis. She’s like me and everyone else. She is strictly supervised and she just wants to get out of the bird cage. She’s curious and likes new things. She’s excited when Johnny tells her interesting facts about another world, the world that she always believes to be horrible. In short, she is no other than a typical teenager. Yet, she still loves her Dad so much. When Dracula, being nearly burnt, crashes into her room, she looks so anxious.
But anyway, unlike us, in the end, she has a happy ending. We might have to wait one more century to heard "Do what your heart told you, dear" from our Dad.
The best thing about Hotel Transylvania is the way it turn creepy characters into childish ones. Every kid can watch it without screaming. Even adults (my Mom is an example) laughed all the time. Everything seems to be completely opposite to what we commonly believe.
Deeper than that are some great lessons:
Intelligence, along with wealth, has always been the standard ruler for a person’s value. However, the winner of 6 Oscars and uncountable other awards, FORREST GUMP, brings us a totally different perspective.
For those who have never watched this movie, it is about the life of a IQ-75 man who experiences many important historical and chaotic events of the United States and later on becomes a “phenomenon” of his country.
The movie starts with Forrest Gump (he’s actually Tom Hanks!!!!! OMG...) sitting at a bus stop and telling the story of his life. His voice sounds boring and like a child, but somehow it stimulates the watchers’ curiosity. It makes us look at the problems and chaos in an innocent and optimistic way, just like him. I even wish I can deal with my mess like him.
In “Forrest Gump”, we can find many things similar to our history textbook. However, in the movie, Forrest “creates” the history.
There are 3 people who heavily affect Forrest: his mother, Jenny and Bubba. Their write the story of Forrest Gump.
First, we’ll talk about Forrest’s mom. Although many other kids made fun of Forrest because of his disabled leg and low IQ, she always help and cheers him up.
“Life is a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
She doesn’t physically appear on screen many times, but her will and ideals do. Mama is Forrest's guide. Every time he makes any important decision, he tries to figure out what Mama would do. And he learn Mama's words by his heart. You can see Forrest saying "My Mama said..." all the time.
I cried when I saw her lying on the bed but still smiling. “Life is a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re gonna get.”, said Mama. She looks so happy and optimistic even when she knows she’s going to die. This very optimism once encourages Forrest to forget his disabled leg and be himself, and this "being-himself" leads Forrest to success.
Forrest is speechless in that scene, but his wet eyes speak everything. He's going to lose not only a great mother, but a good friend, the guiding light, whose thoughts and quotes have been his " life handbook". Maybe he's wondering "Mama, what should I say? What should I do?". Without her, Gump would have been nothing. This part reminds me of my Mom and makes me love her more than ever before.
Everybody has at least a friend. So does Forrest. When Forrest joins the army, he meets Bubba, the only person to share him the seat. Bubba is a weird guy with thick lips who talks about shrimp all day (No wonder he makes friend with our weird protagonist). The two men even promised to share the shrimp business. One day, Forrest and Bubba are sent to Vietnam. They were ambushed in a patrol and only Forrest can escape. Finally, Forrest finds Bubba and carries his best friend to the coast. However, Mr.Shrimp is severely injured. He says “I wanna go home” and passes away in Forrest's arm.
I feel like he speaks not only for him but all the young soldiers who wasted their lives in the war. They have dreams and now those dreams are broken. In this case, going home and having a shrimp boat is very plain but impossible. As a Vietnamese, I know how we and Americans love peace and that both side wanted no wars. This scene is the best anti-war scene ever!
I bursted to tears when I saw Bubba’s death and the pain and regret on Forrest’s face. Yes, it's fine if you die because everyone will. But how about the ones who stay after your leaving? They feel painful, miserable, disappointed, empty and so on while you are lying there knowing nothing. This scene is not gooey like Korean dramas or mournful like tragedies. It is just... simple, but so touching and deep.
When Forrest asks Jenny to marry him and she refuses, he makes this famous quote (one of my favorite ones): “I’m not a smart man. But I know what love is”. This quote is the "crystalline product" of the movie. We know he's not been smart from the beginning and we have seen the incredibles things he has done for the others. But now, Forrest is doing a simple thing for himself: to be with his love. And he proves that we don't need to be a genius to find love. Everyone deserves it.
Even when Jenny becomes his wife, the director doesn’t leave them alone. He lets Jenny die. And Forrest, believing that they are still together, goes to Jenny's gravestone under their tree and talks to her as if she’s alive. “If there’s anything you need, I won’t be far away”. He takes care of their son, who keeps a part of Jenny, with all his heart. We can say that our Big Forrest finally find his happiness, in the Little Forrest.
And I admire this man. Why is his love so strong although his crush keeps running away from him time to time? He is too persistent and loyal, he's an IDEAL MAN! However, I also feel poor for him. In spite of valuable things that he had such as money and fame, Forrest never gives up on Jenny. Is he blind?
Well, I guess the message from their love story is that being a famous millionaire doesn't mean you have enough. We're always hungry of love.
Honestly, I’ve watch “Forrest Gump” 4 times and if anyone asks me “Do you want to watch it again?”, I’ll say “Yes”. This is an amiable and deep movie that you can never miss. You'll laugh, then you'll cry, and then you laugh, and cry...
Everyone must be so familiar with the movie that creates the trend of singing “Let it go”, “Do you want to build a snowman” and “For the first time in forever” all day long. With funny scenes and deep meaning, this is a really-should-see-or-rewatch cartoon. Ladies and gentlemen, beholddddd
You might wonder: “Is Elsa good or bad?”. She’s bad because she freezes everything and run away without trying to fix it. She is good because she withdraws to protect the others. But if you dig deeper, you’ll see she is COMPLICATED! Elsa chooses the safety of others instead of her happiness and follow it for years. However, when she releases the magic that she has tried to hide, she releases her depression, fear and desire of freedom, too. Eventually, she just “let it go”. She doesn’t care anymore and she realizes running away can bring her both things. When our queen is walking on the mountain, she uses her power as if she has been hungry for this moment for a long time (in fact she is). The only problem is that she desperately longs to be with Anna. So it is very hard to say if she is really happy now.
About Anna, if I were her, I would feel super upset when my sister suddenly disappears (figuratively) and keeps rejecting me. Being a princess and living in a huge castle makes no sense to me if I were alone. This loneliness explains why Anna sings and dances like a child when they open the gate, and why she is eager to marry Hans on the first day they meet and her will to find Elsa in the snowstorm. Also, at first, the way she talks to Elsa in the feast room has been somehow reserved until both sisters say in unison “Chocolate”. At that moment, they somewhat lived in their childhood again. The frozen wall between them starts melting.
After discovering Elsa’s secret, although Elsa tries to shut her out again, she is still persistent and declares she’s not afraid and “I will be right here”. Most of the time, they are distant. But her love and beautiful memories about the sister is so strong that it washes away all her sadness and disappointment that Elsa reluctantly brings her.
I won’t spoil the ending to keep a good relationship with those who haven’t watched. I just say that it is very unexpected. At the very moment that you think you know how it happens, it turns 180 degrees. And “Frozen” has completely change the definition of “true love” that we have always seen in Disney movies.
Now, I guess we don’t need to talk about the hilarious parts. It’s better for you to rewatch it than to read my boring words. How many times did you laugh? Well, for me, I couldn't count.
Again, I strongly recommend that you should watch or rewatch it, especially when you are depressed and sad. It will bring you the happiest moments you can ever imagine. And don’t forget to take a glance at “Let it go” parody versions.

Have you ever think about a mysterious man who protect us from bad people and not a superhero like Iron man, Batman or Spider man? Well, you would meet him the first time in “Dexter” season 1.
The protagonist in “Dexter” is himself. By day, he is a funny blood expert in Miami Metro police. No one, except Harry (his foster father) knows his darkest secret: Dexter is addicted of killing. Trained to be a “perfect” killer to leave no trace and follow the code “Only kill bad people”, Dexter becomes a serial killer by night. Going through the first season is the case of Ice Truck Killer, which later leads to a heart-breaking tragedy.
Everything in “Dexter” season 1 is amazing and striking. At the very beginning, we might have thought “This guy is so evil” but it turned out that he killed a kidnapper and murderer, which put us in dilemma: Is he good or bad? Usually, killers are bad and saviors are good. If no one kill that killer, many people will probably die. So to save people, killing a killer is right. But then the one who kills the killer becomes a killer, either. Back to Dexter. In this case, is he an angel who saves people or he is just a monster as he calls himself?
Also, Dexter impresses us with a unique killing style: anesthetizes the victim, wraps him to a table, cut his cheek to keep a drop of his blood, then cut his throat or stab his heart. Like Hannibal, he is a combination of white-collar and psycho criminal. In spite of his weird taste, he is well-educated, knows a lot about forensic examination, which somewhat helps him not to be caught.
The most epic part of the season is the last episode. Dexter discovers a home of truth: Rudy, the Ice Truck killer, is actually Brian, his own BROTHER (I guess I’m even shocked more than Dexter because they look totally different)! They both saw their mother’s death and sat in a full-of-blood container, which later made them addicted to killing (and they’re both handsome). But only Dexter was adopted by Harry, who taught him to kill only bad guys. Brian was sent to an orphanage and later becomes a demon as we see.
Back to the present. Brian persuades his brother to kill Debra, Dexter’s beloved foster sister, and be with him so that Dexter can comfortably live with his real nature, “A killer. Without reason or regret. Free.” (sounds interesting). However, after hesitating for a while, Dexter declares that he loves Debra and saves her from Rudy’s knife. That night Rudy came back and tried to kill Debra but he was captured (you know who do that).
Now, this is my favorite part. Rudy, or Brian, wakes up and finds himself tied to the table with plastic wrap, just like his brother’s victims. While having an emotional conversation, Dexter cut his brother’s throat because he can’t stand hearing anymore. And for the first time and forever, I see Dexter cries.
Despite his clear-cut slice, I still find an extremely miserable and painful killer (That’s why I love Michael C.Hall’s acting). Although he has been weird, cold and inhuman from the very first episode, now he turns into a very normal man who feels sad to harm the one that understands him. And then, he regretfully wondered what he has done when killing a biological brother who can sympathizes and supports his killing addiction to save a foster sister who can readily leave him if she knows his dark secret. However he tells himself that this is how he survives.
At the end of the season, Dexter imagines how people will treat him if they know who he is: They praise him as if he’s a hero. “Yeah, they see me. I’m one of them. in their darkest dreams.”, says Dexter. A wonderful season ends.
